Aerosol, Dry powder or water based fire extinguisher, which one is suitable for vehicle engine fire suppression system?
Vehicle engine fire suppression system, aerosol fire suppression system would be a better choice. Below we will explain the reasons.
First, we have to know that can we take out the fire extinguisher as soon as the car catches fire? Second, after the car engine catches fire, the hood cannot be opened. If it is opened, the fire source will combine with the air, and the fire will be even bigger. Under this condition, It is useless to use any fire extinguisher.
If we use a dry powder fire extinguisher, it is really hard to put out the fire with the hood closed. Yes, it can’t be sprayed in at all, resulting in the vehicle fire not being controlled in time. After the dry powder is used, a lot of residues will also make our car difficult to clean and also have a certain degree of corrosion. Therefore, dry powder fire extinguishers are not recommended.
Water-based fire extinguishers, water has conductivity, it is not suitable for engine fires. There are certain chemical components in water-based fire extinguishers on the market, which have corrosion and residual effects on electrical appliances and lines, so it is not recommended to use them.
What is aerosol fire suppression system?
Aerosol fire extinguishing technology is a new type of fire extinguishing technology developed on the basis of military pyrotechnics. Now it is widely used in Passenger cars, Vehicles and SUV engine compartments, energy storage system, Electrical cabinets, Li-ion battery compartment, and other small enclsoed space, to automatically suppress the early fire by self heat-detecting and self activation.

1. Easy to start
When the hood is closed, the aerosol fire extinguisher can start automatically to prevent the early fire. We can also start it manually. There are two ways to start the aerosol fire extinguisher.
a. Thermal (passive) self-starting: Thermal Starting Temperature:175℃±10℃
When there is a fire risk in the protected space, when the detection temperature reaches 175 (±10℃) at any point on the temperature-sensitive detection harness arranged in the protected space, the temperature-sensitive fire detection harness will give an activation signal, and the fire extinguishing device will immediately start and release hot aerosol Fire extinguishing gas to extinguish the fire in the protected area. The feedback output function and feedback module (acousto-optic alarm) can be configured to realize the start-up feedback signal output after the fire extinguishing device is started.
b. Electric (active) manual start: Starting Condition: 12V~24V DC (Minimum starting current 350mA)
When a fire is judged artificially, the fire extinguishing device (active) is given an electric start signal through a manual button, and the fire extinguishing device is immediately activated and releases hot aerosol fire extinguishing gas to extinguish the fire in the protected area. The feedback output function and feedback module (acousto-optic alarm) can be configured to realize the start-up feedback signal output after the fire extinguishing device is started.
